About Rob & Drum Masters
Near the end of 1991, an 11 year old Robert Litten watched a documentary on the Beatles that changed his life forever. There was something about the drums that had always appealed to Rob but it was whilst watching Ringo Starr on drums, and thinking 'I could do that!', that the spark was properly ignited. As soon as the documentary had ended, Rob went out to his shed, took an old snooker cue, sawed it in half, and made his first drum sticks...much to the horror of his dad!
Right from the beginning, Rob knew how much you could improve just from learning your favourite songs, beats, fills and drum parts. With no formal teaching, Rob spent the next 10 years in his bedroom playing along to songs, for hours at a time! Without even realising it, Rob was getting better and better on the drums, simply by copying his favourite drummers!
It wasn't until his formal training at the Academy Of Contemporary Music in Guildford that Rob realised just how good he had gotten, simply from playing along to songs. It had given him a solid musical foundation which he could now build upon as a drummer and teacher.
Fast forward a few years and at the beginning of 2008 Rob started the website www.DrumsTheWord.com as a fun side project. The website immediately took off and his videos became an online hit starting with his beginner drum lesson series. Although Rob was a little shaky and nervous in front of the camera to start off with, he soon grew with confidence as more and more drummers followed him online.
The moment came when in June 2010, Rob uploaded his latest video previewing a drum lesson for the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. This video proved incredibly popular and has now received almost 140,000 views online. Rob's DrumsTheWord YouTube channel alone has received just over 60,000 views.
In total, since starting his online career, Rob has received almost 1,500,000 video views on YouTube and has received interest from major online drum companies, internet entrepreneurs and top drummers. Today, Rob spends his time perfecting his teaching craft and constantly improving his video products.
